What This Data Means for Players
Fast Selling ≠ Best Value
A game being "fastest selling" doesn't necessarily mean it's the best value. Popular games attract more players, which means prizes deplete faster. The key question is: are the remaining prizes still worth the ticket price?
When Fast Selling Is Good
- New games with high activity: If a recently launched game is selling fast but still has all top prizes, it's popular AND still has full value.
- Games with many top prizes remaining: High activity with plenty of top prizes left means the game can sustain its value despite heavy play.
When Fast Selling Is a Warning
- Top prizes disappearing quickly: If a game is in the "Fastest Burn Rate" table above, its value is dropping rapidly. Check the current ROI before buying.
- Only 1-2 top prizes left: Heavy play + few remaining top prizes = those prizes will likely be gone soon. The game's EV will drop significantly when they're claimed.
The Smart Play
Use this page to identify which games people are playing, then cross-reference with our ROI analysis to determine if those games are actually worth buying. Sometimes the best value is a less popular game that still has all its top prizes intact.
How We Measure "Fastest Selling"
State lotteries don't publish real-time sales data. Instead, we use Daily Value Claimed (DVC) as a proxy for sales velocity:
DVC = Σ (prizes_claimed_today × prize_amount) across all tiers
We calculate this by comparing remaining prize counts between consecutive daily snapshots. When prizes are claimed, it means tickets were purchased and won — giving us a direct measure of player activity.
Why DVC Correlates With Sales
- More tickets sold → more prizes claimed → higher DVC
- Games with higher payout percentages show proportionally higher DVC per ticket sold
- DVC captures both volume (many small wins) and impact (fewer large wins)
Limitations
- DVC measures prize claims, not ticket sales directly. A game could sell many tickets with few winners (low DVC despite high sales).
- State lottery websites update at different frequencies. Some update daily, others every few days — which can cause spikes in our data.
- Large jackpot claims can spike a game's DVC for a single day without indicating sustained high sales.
