How ScratchersParadise Helps You Make Better Scratch-Off Decisions
Scratch-off tracking sites all promise the same thing: “We’ll help you find the best tickets.” But the way they deliver on that promise varies wildly — from transparent math to proprietary black boxes, from daily updates to stale weekly data, from free access to paywalled basics.
Here’s how we approach the problem, what we do differently, and why it matters for your wallet.

We Lead with ROI — The Metric That Actually Answers “Should I Buy This?”
Most scratch-off sites rank games by “best odds” — the probability of winning any prize. That sounds useful until you realize: a game with 1 in 3 odds where most wins are $1 on a $5 ticket isn’t a good buy. You win often, but you lose money on almost every win.
ROI (Return on Investment) answers the question that actually matters: “For every dollar I spend, how much do I expect to get back?” It accounts for both the probability AND the value of each remaining prize.
Other sites calculate versions of expected value too — this isn’t unique to us. What’s different is that we make ROI the primary ranking metric, not a secondary stat buried in a detail page. When you visit any state page on ScratchersParadise, the default “Best Value” tab sorts by ROI. The best financial decision is always front and center.
No Proprietary Black Boxes — Just Published Math
Several scratch-off sites market “proprietary algorithms,” “SmartFactor™ ratings,” or “TRUE Odds™” scores. These sound impressive, but here’s what they usually are: basic expected value calculations dressed up with trademarked names.
The underlying math isn’t secret. Expected value is a standard statistical formula. Anyone with remaining prize data can calculate it. The real question is: how honest is the site about what they’re actually computing, and how reliable are their inputs?
The “Current Odds” Problem — Why Most Claims Are Misleading
Here’s the fundamental issue that most scratch-off sites either don’t understand or don’t disclose: calculating accurate “current odds” requires knowing how many total tickets remain unsold. State lotteries don’t publish this number.
Lotteries publish remaining prizes — how many winning tickets are left at each tier. But they don’t publish total tickets sold or total tickets remaining. This is a critical gap, because odds = tickets remaining ÷ prizes remaining. Without the numerator, you can’t compute the fraction.
So when a competitor advertises “REAL Odds™” or “updated current odds,” ask yourself: where are they getting total tickets remaining? The answer is usually one of three things:
- They’re using the original printed odds (which never change — not “updated” at all)
- They’re showing raw remaining prizes and calling it “odds” (misleading — fewer prizes doesn’t tell you odds without knowing tickets remaining)
- They’re estimating — but not telling you how, or that it’s an estimate
How We Actually Solve This
We estimate total tickets remaining using the game’s own published odds as a conversion factor. The logic:
- If a prize tier originally had 100 winners and the published odds for that tier are 1 in 50,000, then the game printed approximately 5,000,000 total tickets (100 × 50,000)
- If 30 of those prizes have been claimed, approximately 1,500,000 tickets have been sold (30 × 50,000)
- Therefore approximately 3,500,000 tickets remain
We cross-validate this estimate across multiple prize tiers — if the top prize tier and mid-tier prizes both imply the same total tickets printed, we have high confidence in the number. This is the only mathematically sound approach when total tickets sold isn’t published.
The key difference: We disclose this as an estimate. We publish the formula. We explain the methodology. We don’t trademark it and call it “REAL Odds™” as if we have access to data that doesn’t exist. Our Methodology page shows every calculation, every assumption, and every limitation.
Why Transparency Matters
When a site hides behind a “proprietary score,” you can’t evaluate whether their recommendation is sound. You’re trusting a black box. When we show you ROI = (EV ÷ ticket_price − 1) × 100%, you can check our work. You can understand why a game ranks where it does and make your own judgment.
43 States, Daily, Automated
We scrape official lottery data from 43 state lottery websites every single day using automated systems. This isn’t a manual process or a weekly batch — it’s a purpose-built infrastructure that captures prize changes as they happen.
Why daily matters: prizes are claimed constantly. A game that was positive-ROI yesterday might not be today if a top prize was claimed overnight. Weekly updates miss these shifts entirely. Our data reflects the most current state of every game, every day.
Current coverage: 2,700+ active games across 43 states and D.C. — from Arizona to Wisconsin. When a state lottery updates their remaining prize data, our next daily scrape captures it.
Smart Combo Strategies
This is where our analysis goes beyond what most sites offer. We automatically identify when buying two cheaper tickets delivers more expected value than one expensive ticket at the same total price.
Our algorithm compares every game against combinations of cheaper games at the same total spend. When a combo delivers more expected value, we flag it on the state page with a specific recommendation.
Real example from Illinois right now: Both $50 games are beaten by buying 1× Cash is King ($30) + 1× Maximum Money Blowout ($20) — delivering 19% more expected value for the same $50 spend. This analysis runs daily as game values shift.
Other sites may offer general advice like “consider cheaper tickets.” We give you the specific combo, the specific games, and the exact percentage improvement — updated daily for every price tier in every state.

We Tell You What NOT to Buy
Most scratch-off sites focus on “best games” lists. We also prominently surface the worst — because avoiding a bad game is just as valuable as finding a good one.
- ⚠️ All Top Prizes Claimed: Every state page flags games that have lost all top prizes. Right now, 289 games across 43 states are still being sold with zero top prizes remaining.
- Top Prize Watch List: Games with ≤3 top prizes remaining — at risk of significant value drops any day.
- Monthly “Games to Avoid” lists: Our state reports explicitly name games you shouldn’t buy and explain why.
A casual player who doesn’t check this data might spend $20 on a game with -67% ROI (all top prizes gone) when a game with -19% ROI is sitting right next to it on the shelf. That’s a $9.60 difference in expected return on a single purchase. We make sure you see that before you buy.

Responsible Gaming Is Built In
We’re a data tool for informed decision-making — not a gambling encouragement platform. Our position:
- Scratch-offs have a built-in house edge. Even “positive ROI” games are temporary and uncertain for individual tickets.
- Data helps you make better decisions within your entertainment budget. It doesn’t guarantee wins.
- Never spend more than you can afford to lose.
- If gambling is causing problems, call 1-800-GAMBLER.
We include responsible gaming context throughout the site because we believe understanding the math — including the reality that the house always has an edge — is the foundation of responsible play.
